Frequently Asked Questions

  • So many photographers only do location shoots, why do you have a studio?

    Open or Close
This question comes up a lot. If you have ever had a studio session done, you wouldn't ask this question. The level of control over lighting, color, and environment we can exert in a studio leads to the highest quality images possible. Quality is what we are all about. Plus, let's face it, here in the Pacific Northwest, if you want to be a photographer year round, a studio is your only option. We are open rain or shine!
  • Do you still do location shoots?

    Open or Close
Absolutely. If a location shoot is required, we have the equipment and ability to set up on location so you can look your best at any location of your choosing.
  • What forms of payment do you accept?

    Open or Close
We accept all four major credit card and check. We assess a $30 fee on all NSF checks regardless the amount and require a guaranteed form of payment be delivered in no more than five business days for the full amount plus fees.
  • When is payment due?

    Open or Close
Payment is due at the time of services. With some ongoing accounts, arrangements can be made for monthly invoicing; payment for invoices are due upon receipt.
  • Does MCP retain all copyrights?

    Open or Close
Yes. Photography and design are our bread and butter. When you purchase an instance of a photo from MCP, you are not buying the image, you are purchasing a license to use the image; this is similar to how you purchase software. If you are purchasing it for advertising, you will be issued, along with the image, a statement from MCP detailing your license. This will be required when using the images with another designer or print service.
  • How long does MCP keep photographs?

    Open or Close
We never throw away an image. If MCP took a photograph several years back, we still have it. Give us a description and a timeframe and we will find it.
  • I want to remove the MCP watermark from an image, is that okay?

    Open or Close
If the image has the watermark, you are not allowed by law to remove it. If the image is used for commercial advertising, your license will reflect that and there should be no watermark in the image. If you want to change your license to a commercial license, let us know and we will make the necessary arrangements. No individual outside of Maritime City Photography has permission to alter the image.
  • Wait, what? I get to the keep digitals and print as many as I like? That doesn't sound right.

    Open or Close
It is. We are mainly a commercial photography studio. When we photograph models and other clients, we send the finished image out for use in some production. It it is good enough for the commercial world, it is good enough for our families.

So here is the deal, we have a flat hourly fee in the studio. We take as many photos as we can during that time, finish the images for commercial quality, and give you a DVD with all the images. Nothing else to buy. Ever. Some shops try and up-sell, we don't. We think you shouldn't have to pick five images then go broke paying for five more. We recommend Costco for printing but you can print anywhere you wish, at home, a service bureau…wherever. If you want us to help you with production, of course we will.
